Moving Milk!

Our science experiment this week involved some common kitchen chemicals. We had some questions/wonderings at the end of the experiment that you might like to investigate further.

Moving Milk

You will need:
Blue Milk
Assorted Food colourings
Small amount of Detergent (in a milk bottle cap)
Shallow bowl or plate
Cotton bud

Method:

1. Pour milk into the bowl.
2. Put drops of different food colourings around the perimeter of the bowl.

MAKE A PREDICTION!
What do you think will happen when a small amount of detergent is dripped into the centre of the bowl?

Remember to use our SOLO hypothesis format of;

I think ......  because .......   and .......

3. Dip one end of the cotton bud into the detergent and drip into the milk. Do not stir!

OBSERVE
What can you see happening?

INTERPRETATION
Why was the milk moving?

WONDERINGS FROM ROOM 19
I wonder if you can you use different colours?
I wonder if the colour of the detergent make a difference?
I wonder if it works faster if you stir it?
I wonder what would happen if you used warm/very cold milk?
I wonder if it will work with flavoured/different types of milk?
